I wouldn't want the Knowledge Hub project to act as a dead weight or dependency in getting an agile project underway using something like WordPress MU, but this is one of the pilot projects we've got running at present, using WP-MU technology for the 'Partnerships and Places Library'. Outputs from the project will be used to inform the requirements gathering for the Khub,. Reflecting on the comment from Mark Walker re helping the people and developing the required skills - this is a key element of the project and we've set aside resources (people and funds) to provide the training, support and help to users who are unfamiliar with (or suspicious of) social media tools.

We've only just kicked this project off, so can't feedback any lessons learnt just yet. However, happy to keep people here updated on progress.

I'd be keen to explore how the third sector can make use of this. I was involved in a project in the midto late 1990s called (if memory serves me right!) 'Getting Voluntary Organisations Online' which resulted in a book published by the Volunteer Centre 'Making Sense of the Internet'.

My feeling is that with wordpress multi-user, and a bit of themeing, you could produce a lot of the functionality needed to deliver this kind of engagement. Even with a simple wordpress site, and some embedded videos, you can go a fair bit of the way.

With it delivered through a user-friendly front-end, the tech side would be simple, so you could concentrate on, as you say, the skills and the culture, and get people concentrating on the content and the discussions they want, rather than worrying about ftp protocols or html.

In terms of a solution for 3rd sector, I'd be looking to contribute to discussions around how it could be done, and maybe looking to get a project underway.

Hi Mark
Great stuff about the Stockport work - esp andrewtalkingtoterry. Even the slightly out of focus shots of the interface look intriguing.
We work with third sector organisations [we are one] and we currently use wordpress as our DIY tool of choice when helping people learn to build and manage their own websites/social media spaces
For that reason I'm interested in the comment about being able to do this with wordpress and a couple of widgets and to know whether you've done it yet and if so whether it offers a possible blueprint for similarly engaging spaces run by other organisations to help share knowledge within their networks/communities?
I am confident that the real work lies in working with the people and helping develop the skills and culture to make use of the tools, not just ftp-ing a few wordpress files and fiddling with widgets.
BUT, in this case it may be possible to help them take the step forward, at low cost, and begin the journey?

I'm really delighted that this Social by Social space may be useful to the knowledge hub. Amy posted over here some general thoughts on how the network might develop as an open space for different groups to have their own and share places.
I doubt if this group needs any help in moving forward - but if there's anything I can do, please let me know.

Stephen - we're using Ektron CMS, a well-established .net CMS that has some basic social networking functionality (although you could deliver using wordpress with a few widgets). At present there's no RSS, but we're looking to get a couple more authorities taking on similar projects, and then you get the potential of knowledge sharing across authorities (and of course into the likes of KHub).

Hi Mark,

Looks like a very interesting project. I like the way you've used multimedia to illustrate the key learning points (KM), and the fresh look to the Connected Practice website. As a matter of interest, what technology have you used for the website? Is there an RRS feed (which is what the KHub would use to ingest and aggregate content)?

Also, thanks for the interest in the KHub project. I'll keep you advised (via this group) on status, and would welcome your input as part of the 'Advisory Group'.

I would have joined sooner but have been on holiday.

Hoping we can use this space to more effectively communicate what we're doing on the Knowledge Hub project, and for collaborating with anyone interested in helping to shape the project.

I think the first step is to invite the KHub Advisory Group to join up here.
